World War II and the Holocaust affected people on a global scale. But how did what happened 4,788 miles away affect Nebraska? How did it impact the people who lived and made their homes here? And, consequently, how does that influence us as Nebraskans now? Using the stories of specific individuals directly affected by the rise of Nazism in Germany and its assault on Europe’s Jews before, during, and after WWII, this session will demonstrate how local connections with the Holocaust illustrate the ripple effect of global crisis. This session will explore the use of primary sources and how teachers can turn over the investigation of historical connections to their students.
