Once they enter college, students will be required to read very complex, sophisticated texts from many different subject areas. Yet research shows that the texts students encounter through their K-12 experience are not demanding enough to prepare them. Students are being shortchanged, and the texts they read are often not at grade level. In this session, we’ll explore the fundamentals of text complexity. We’ll also learn about strategies to engage students with texts that are dense, challenging, and most of all—rewarding!
